Feast of the Seven Fishes
The Feast of the Seven Fishes, or La Vigilia, is a cherished Italian-American Christmas Eve tradition celebrating the wait for Christmas Day with a variety of seafood dishes. Rooted in Southern Italian customs, the feast often includes seven distinct fish or seafood courses, symbolizing everything from the seven sacraments to Biblical references. Families gather around tables filled with dishes like baccalà (salted cod), calamari, shrimp, and clams, each recipe varying by region and family tradition. It’s a festive night of indulgence, faith, and togetherness, connecting generations through food and cultural heritage.
